About Me

GET TO KNOW JANET WILLEMINA WALLDEN

JANET WILLEMINA WALLDEN

I feel I was born to become a Yoga teacher and help others. My mother has been practicing Yoga and Buddhism since I was very young. Both my mother and grandmother were school teachers… It’s in my blood, I guess you could say!

I have also always been a naturally organized, visually motivated and managerial type of person. My mom has often said, “I would leave something out on the coffee table, and If I turned away for a bit, then came back to it, Janet had already put it back where it belonged or set it in a new, more visually pleasing setting.”

I have always been passionate about interior design and all that it inspires in a home and how that can evoke calm, happiness, and peace in its occupants. Over the years, I also volunteered to help my friends and family with various projects around their homes. I helped with everything from organizing and planning yard sales and closet purges, cleaning and creating functional systems in messy basements and garages, and guiding parents to rearrange their home's new needs when they became empty nesters.

I began my Yoga path in the mid-90s, avidly practicing and learning anything I could get my hands on to absorb the lineage of Yoga in all of its facets.

In those days, there was very little access to Yoga schooling or certification training in Canada, so in the spring of 2001, I drove to Los Angeles for four months, where I completed my first teacher training at YogaWorks with founders Maty Ezraty and Lisa Walford.

I have studied with many internationally renowned teachers and spent thousands of hours learning a variety of Yoga lineages, including Hatha, Ashtanga, Iyengar, Vijnana, Anatomy, Restorative, Meditation, Breathwork and Yoga philosophy.

The same year I returned from California, I made the bold leap to leave my career in wholesale fashion, as I had felt for some time that there was a deeper calling of work that could serve my soul more fully. Since 1999, I had been renting a small space to teach from and was then fortunate to be invited to teach in some of Vancouver's first Yoga studios. I was a senior teacher at YYoga when it opened in 2007 until I moved to Victoria in 2017. I was on their mentorship and audition panel hiring programs and taught several workshops through YYoga during that time.

My friend Marta Hernandez, owner of The Space, introduced me to mat Pilates. I completed the PhysicalMind Institute of Canada mat Pilates (TheMethod) 101 & 201 certification programs with her in 2005.

I love connecting with like-minded people and am naturally comfortable and welcoming as
"the teacher."

My classes are open to all levels, ages and abilities.

I emphasize the deeper physical awareness principles of movement... intuition, gradual progress, precise alignment, core awareness, deeper muscular strength, balance, and finally, time to pause and feel. I believe that an alignment-based practice clears the mind from its busyness and helps us practice refining our attention, intention and actions in our daily lives.

Having come to the realization that home organization is much in demand, the decision to combine my two passions and areas of work was a no-brainer. My businesses have become natural, meant to be blended in a sense when it comes to combining my experience as a Yoga & Pilates teacher and my organizational inclinations. Helping people to be calm and making them feel that they are supported by me through compassion and understanding is key when organizing.

Through my 15 years of home organization, I have realized the process can bring up all sorts of emotions and blocks. That is why combining home organizing and exercise practice is so beneficial when performed in tandem.

My aim is to inspire and bring a sense of ease, positivity, renewed energy and transformational results to home, body and mind.
